Honey, prune and nutmeg.
Our second coffee from Nicaraguan speciality exporter Gold Mountain Coffee is from Ana Carolina's farm La Bendicion. Gold Mountain are a social enterprise company that work closely with small producers in Jinotega and assist them with all aspects of production and market the coffees on their behalf into the US and Europe. These small-holder farmers would never had previously had the opportunity to sell their coffees into the specialty marketplace.
Gold Mountain literally stand on every partner farm during picking to ensure ripeness with refractometers and ripeness bracelets. They also carry out sustainable development projects in communities, such as free computing classes for girls from coffee communities, medical assistance, microcredit, running water in schools, and educational supplies.
This washed micro-lot of Red Catuai comes from La Bendicion owned by Ana Carolina which is in the Jinotega growing region of Nicaragua. Like many small-holder farmers they still depulp by a hand. Here's a short video of the process below.
With the help of Gold Mountain, Ana is hoping to build a wet-mill in the next year or so.
