New because it's a special form of Geisha called SL9 or Geisha Inca which we've never seen before that has been found to exist only in this particular region of Peru.

Bertha Huaylla Sayllo and her family farm coffee in the high-altitude region of Tablahuasi, in Cusco, Peru. The farm’s exceptional elevation and constant access to fresh water for irrigation contribute to an outstanding cup profile. One of the most remarkable aspects of Bertha’s farm is its isolation. The only access to the property is via a rustic wooden bridge, which Bertha and her family cross daily to transport food supplies and carry out farm work. During the rainy season, the bridge becomes especially dangerous, as rising river levels often wash it away each year.

Evie from Que Onda Coffee who imported this coffee shared with us her findings on the origins of this special variety: "Gesha SL9 is a unique and rare coffee variety grown in the high-altitude areas of Cusco. Locally it’s known as Geisha Inca. To better understand its origins, producer Lucio submitted this variety to World Coffee Research for genetic testing. The results showed that this coffee is closely related to SL-09, a little-known cultivar developed in Kenya in the mid-20th century. It also carries some Bourbon genetic influence, which points to natural mutations and cross-pollination over many generations. Although it’s not an exact genetic match to the famous Panamanian Geisha, its plant structure, cup profile, and genetic markers place it firmly within the broader Geisha/Ethiopian Legacy group. For classification purposes, it is considered SL9, a very rare cultivar today.Unlike the well-known Kenyan varieties such as SL28 and SL34, SL9 is scarcely cultivated, making Geisha Inca an unusual and distinctive offering with its own lineage and character."
