New for 2022. It's time for this years Grand Tour blend to celebrate the 3 big stage races on the professional cycling calendar, and a reminder as to the ‘why’ of the beginnings of Crankhouse linking coffee and cycling.
This year we've designed a blend based on two of our freshest coffees in the roastery, and after a little taste testing we came up with this mix:
- 60% Mexico Ejidos San Fernando, natural Gesha
- 40% Colombia Ricardo Chilo, washed Castillo
The result is something very sweet with notes of mixed berries and a sweet spice finish.
If you’ve been a Crankhouse regular you might remember that we put a little competition out a few years back for an image we could use for this particular coffee and a local illustrator and cyclist @clareh.art came up with the winning design. Over the years Clare has made topical changes to the design and this year her illustration is dedicated to the first Tour De France Femmes ! This is a massive step forward in recognising and rewarding the professionalism in womens cycling. If you’ve followed this years racing so far you would have witnessed spectacular solo attacks, bunch sprints and dominance by well drilled teams.
The components of the Grand Tour blend are selected to give a more fruit forward tasting coffee than our standard CHX blend. As the year progresses and certain coffees finish and new ones arrive we will adjust the blend with this objective in mind.
