This is our first coffee from Nicaraguan speciality exporter Gold Mountain Coffee. They are a social enterprise company that work closely with small producers in Jinotega and assist them with all aspects of production and market the coffees on their behalf into the US and Europe. These small-holder farmers would never had previously had the opportunity to sell their coffees into the specialty market place.
Gold Mountain literally stand on every partner farm during picking to ensure ripeness with refractometers and ripeness bracelets. They also carry out sustainable development projects in communities, such as free computing classes for girls from coffee communities, medical assistance, microcredit, running water in schools, and educational supplies.
This washed micro-lot of Red Catuai comes from Jose Maria Velasquez and his wife Maria Concepcion who have only 4 acres dedicated to coffee in a very remote area of Jinotega. They grow the Red Catuai variety as well as Pacamara.
One of the marketing tools that Gold Mountain use is to name their farmers coffees to represent the flavour characters. This coffee received the nickname "Cherry Concentrate". Easy to see why with this clean and sweet coffee which has notes of Red Cherry and Chocolate.
